Biography

Obituary

On Thursday, May 13th, 2010 appropriately at cocktail hour, we sadly said "so long" to our dad, grandfather, and best friend, Samuel Bud Merryman, Jr. Our dad was born and raised at Moonstone Beach where from a very young age worked his land first as a rancher, then as a successful and passionate restaurateur. He ran Merryman's Restaurant for 38 years and operated the Beachhouse until the night before he passed.... in true "Sambo" style.

His love, dedication, and devotion to us throughout the years are forever treasured. He is in the heart and spirit of his five grandchildren Emily, Sam, Madeleine, Ben, and Claire. His wisdom and support will be ingrained in the hearts of our husbands, Steve and Brett. The community has lost but will not forget a dedicated public servant to various organizations and foundations, a lifelong politician, an advocate for his county, a philanthropist, a passionate HSU Jack's supporter, a classic jokester, and we must not forget a notorious "Ladies Man".

We would be remiss if we did not mention his devotion to the United States Navy and his support of education. He was extraordinarily proud to be a WW11 Veteran and to live in a "free" country where your voice makes a difference. As a true example of an American, he did not take the "Red, White and Blue" for granted. In addition, he highly valued and supported his educational institutions; Humboldt State University, Central Missouri State and University of California, Berkley.

As he has been honored for many accomplishments for his service to the community, we as daughters would like to honor him as a father and grandfather. He instilled qualities that will be a lifelong learning process for us and our children. Those qualities are to be; brave, respectful, generous, accepting, passionate, devoted, genuine, selfless, trustworthy, humorous and hard working. To him we are so very thankful for his guidance, words and wisdom. We are now sharing this honorable man with his father Samuel Bud Merryman, Sr., his mother Mildred Emma Merryman, and his brother Charles Leslie Merryman who preceded him in death.

Please join Melissa, Nancy and family for a classic "Merryman Style 1 Cube Popov Party" on Friday, May 21, 2010, at 1:00 in the afternoon, on the Moonstone Beach property. We feel blessed to have had our dad with us for many years and feel honored to have shared him with you all. We will never forget the strong firm handshake and a smile that could light up a room. In his words this is not goodbye, it is just "so long" and "take care now."
