Biography

Elizabeth Merryman was born in 1716 in Harpswell, Cumberland, Province (now State) of Maine. Her parentage is pending additional research.

Elizabeth married Joseph Ewing in 1737 in Harpswell. Elizabeth and Joseph remained in Harpswell and raised their family. They had the following children: Elizabeth b. 1738; Margaret b. 1740; Catherine b. 1742; Anna b. 1746; Jenny b. abt. 1750; James b. abt. 1755; and Joseph b. June 1760.

In September 1774, Joseph was selected by the town of Harpswell to meet with the House of Representatives to consult together on the present state of the Colonies, which had to do with pre-Revolutionary matters of concern. He also was chosen as Deacon of the church on May 29, 1777.

Margaret passed away on July 20, 1794 in Harpswell. She is buried at the Old Harpswell Burying Ground.
