Commissions issued to John Link app. Second Lieut and Henry Hynes Ensign of Capt. Abraham Haffs Comp, also to BALZER MARTZ Ens. of Capt. N. Whites Comp in the Frederick Town Batt. of Militia in Fred. County, etc.

1790-1870 Md. Census Index: 1796 Boltzer, Martz Frederick Co Md. Lived in Frederick Town also listed in 1800 census for Frederick Co. Database-MD. Early Census Index.
Balser served with the Fredericktown Battalion in the Rev. War.(see Scharf's History, Vol 1,p 121.)
He was commissioned an Ensign in Capt. John Sinkers co. with Col. Baker Johnson commanding. Later in Capt. Nichoals Whites co.(sixth co.)(Balsers name in the Md. State DAR,Vol 1. part 2,page 15 as being in the Md militia from 1778 to 1779(folio 16-19) Balzer served in Capt. Peter Mantz's company. as Sergeant. This co. was a part of the First Battalion. The Md Reg. left for Annapolis, July 10.1776, to join Gern. Washington. They saw action at Long Island, White Plains, Trenton, Paoli, Brandywine and Germantown.
Balzer took the oath. He signed the Association document on Dec.27,1775. He was in favor of independence. Balser was at Valley Forge only a short time. as the Md and Del. troopes were pulled out to defend the shores of both Del and Md. from a naval attack. They were stationed near Wilmington, Del. They captured many supplies from the British ships but they were unable to run this food through the British line to their starving brothers at Valley Forge. Balser Martz served with the Fredericktown Battalion.
Signed the Poll of Reminiscential Elections, Frederick Co,1796 p 284,listed as Boltzer Martz, voted Federalist.
