According to Dugdale (1901), James is the son of Thomas Metcalfe (b. c. 1424 - d. 1503/4), Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, and Elizabeth, daughter and co-heir of William Hartlington.[1]

He married Margaret (b. 1493 - d. 03 Feb 1530/1), daughter and co-heir of Thomas Pigot of Clotherham, Yorkshire.

Metcalfe-85 and Metcalfe-58 appear to represent the same person because: They are listed as having a wife in common. Birthrates differ. Typo maybe?
