Biography
This profile is part of the Metz Name Study.
John Metz, born November 11, 1768 in Lancaster, Province of Pennsylvania, son of Lodowick Metz Jr (~1736–>1793) and Magdalena Hersche (Lang) Metz (~1735–<1776) married Magdalena Stouffer 'Magdalena (Stouffer) Metz, born April 19, 1771, daughter of Abraham and Barbara Hershey Stouffer. The date of marriage is not known. They moved with Abraham Stouffer to Franklin County, Pennsylvania in 1792 where Mr. Stouffer in that same year built the Stouffer Mill. This settlement later became known as Stoufferstown. Mr. Metz was a farmer in Franklin County and he lived there until his death at the age of ninety-four years and ten months. A copy of his will as recorded in the Franklin County Court House follows. John Metz died September 8, 1863 and Magdalena Metz died December 22, 1851. They are buried in the Stouffer Cemetery at Stoufferstown. They were Mennonites throughout their lifetime.
