Amanda was born to John and Louisa Michael in Iowa in about 1884. Her father was a German carpenter.[1] The family moved to South Dakota in 1895.[2] She married Edward Lechner in 1912.[3][4]
Amanda and Edward had several children:
They were still in South Dakota in 1940.[7] By 1954, she and her husband ended up in Northern California. She died in Marin County, California on 6 Aug 1959 after a terrible accident.[8]
A 75 year old San Rafael woman died yesterday afternoon at San Rafael General Hospital of burns suffered when her dress caught fire from a backyard incinerator Tuesday.
Mrs. Amanda Lechner of 329 G Street was burning trash in the incinerator when the accident happened. A neighbor woman tore off Mrs. Lechner's flaming dress and wrapped her in a blanket.
Mrs. Lechner, a San Rafael resident 5 years, was born in Charles City, IA. She was a former concert pianist and piano teacher.
She is survived by her husband Edward J. Lechner; a son, Marin E. of San Rafael; 3 daughters, Miss Nada M. Lechner of Chicago, Mrs. James J. McKenna of Jamaica, NY, and Mrs. Wayne F. Buswell of Chicago; 2 sisters, Mrs. Lydia Kasten of Parker, SD, and Mrs. Ralph Koch of St. Paul, MN, and a brother, Martin Michael of Parker.
Funeral services are being arranged by Harry M. Williams Mortuary in San Rafael.
