Family Tree of Philip Michael

Biography

Philip Michael (called The Immigrant) possibly departed Hamburg on the ship Adventure to Philadelphia on 25 September 1754 and ended up in Loudoun County, Virginia by 1769. He moved to Georges Creek, Allegany, Maryland, states the 1800 US Census, couple are age 45 plus.

Children of Philip are sons: William, John, and Philip Jr., and daughters Anne, Mary, who married Jacob Sigler, and (5x great-grandmother of Richard Abicht); Elizabeth, who married Adam Sigler, both Sigler brothers were from Loudoun County, Virginia, who most likely moved to Allegany County, Maryland at the same time. Adam Sigler helped found the town of Westernport, Maryland. Adam was a Methodist lay preacher in Cumberland, Allegany, MD.

John Michael Sr. was born in 1765 in Loudoun County, Virginia. Loudoun records like the Tithables, Road, Tax and Court records mention Philip, John, and Philip Jr.

John married Mary Catharine Thankbonden (possibly Bonham), and moved to Allegany County, Maryland with father Philip Sr. and brother William. Philip and John both became large owners of tracts of land near the border of Allegany County and Garrett County, Maryland. Later generations of the family were farmers, blacksmiths, timber, merchants and politicians.

Philip Michael Jr. was born in Loudoun County, Virginia, his name being mentioned in court records, militia lists and road work orders; married with at least four children and most likely died before 1800.

William married Rachel Brain and moved to near Bruceton Mills, Preston, (Virginia) today West Virginia.

Research Notes

Previously connected to Anna Magaretta (Johanslater) Sigler (abt.1740-aft.1802) as spouse, but text of profile states wife is Mary and sources such as his children's death records support spouse with name of Mary, maiden name not found by this writer, so disconnecting Anna Magaretta. Mary Magaretta is another wife often connected to Philip on other trees, because there is another Philip from Germany who married Mary Magaretta, but he lived in Pennsylvania. The notes say that wife Anna Magaretta (Johanslater) Sigler (abt.1740-aft.1802) was purposely disconnected but the daughter is still connected to both parents Elizabeth Barbara (Unknown) Sigler (aft.1763-1843)
