Eliza (Michael) Atkinson was born in Yorkshire, England.

Eliza Michael was born in Sutton on 28 February 1856. [1][2] She was the daughter of William Michael and Ann Button.

Eliza was baptised on 5 March 1856.[3] She appears to have had a second baptism on 25 July 1858, when her younger sister Sarah was baptised.[4]

Eliza's known siblings include:

The census of 7 April 1861 recorded Eliza living with her parents in Sutton.[5] By the next census, on 2 April 1871, Eliza was a kitchen maid in the household of Abraham Rodnell, a farmer in Sutton.[6] In 1875 she had a daughter, Hannah Maria.[7][8]

Eliza married William Atkinson at St James' Church, Sutton on 14 March1877. [1][9] Both William and Eliza signed the register, as did the witnesses (Eliza's brother John and her sister Sarah). She is known to have had ten children:

  9. Fred
  10. Alice

In the 1881 census Eliza was recorded with her three daughters at 22 Front Street, Sutton.[10][11] - her husband was not in the family home as he was visiting his widowed mother. By 1891 the family now had a son, and were living in High Street, Sutton [12][13]

Eliza died in Hull Royal infirmary on 30 March 1900 from Carcinoma of Uterus.[1][14] Her death was registered the following day by her widower.
