DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Michel by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA test-takers in his direct paternal line.
Mitochondrial DNA test-takers in the direct maternal line:
it seems to me that your Catherine Michel's father was from the present-day border of France and Germany-- the Alsace-Lorraine area of France/Germanic kingdoms. Sounds like he immigrated to Louisiana, perhaps with John Law, to the "German Coast." They were among the earliest settlers of Louisiana, more than a hundred years before the Acadians started arriving.
Steff, I moved this comment over to Catherine Michels' profile, since this Michel Michel isn't her father, and the info would be better used by those working on her there.
Michel Michel was the father of Catherine MIchel who was b bef 1734 and married Jean Simon Tregre. How certain are we that this Michel Michel is not her father? I do not have access to the reference above. Could there have been two Michel Michels, one who died and one who survived?
I'm sure you'll hear from others, but I can say that Catherine was born in Louisiana before 1734. This Jacques Michel and his wife were Acadians. We have no records of Acadians being in Louisiana before around 1764. Catherine was probably the daughter of Frenchman and not an Acadian.
Hi, Cindi, I checked the White source on the profile and he is the only Michel in that family. Then I posted the sourced for his birth and burial at age one month old. So for sure he can't be the father of Catherine. On the page for Catherine Michel, Karen Theriot Reader (a professional genealogist) cites a source that does not identify her mother. Thus for now, her father Michel Michel is not this one and his family affiliations are unknown. The witnesses for the bride (Catherine) are Pierre and François Bossié (Bossier) and Claude Contret. If those are her brothers, perhaps that family could be found. https://gw.geneanet.org/katheriot?lang=en&pz=frederick+joseph&nz=theriot&ocz=1&p=catherine&n=michel&oc=1
It would be interesting to know what you might find!
