Joseph was born on the 26th of August 1890 at Newark in Essex County, New Jersey. [1] [2] His parents were Morris Michtom and Rose Katz. He married Rebecca Blaufox on the 31st of December at Brooklyn, Kings, New York. [3] They were the parents of two children: Robert [4] and Natalie. [5] Their marriage ended before the 1925, New York State Census was taken. [6] He passed away on the 21st of June 1951 at Roslyn Heights, North Hempstead in Nassau County, New York [7] and was buried in the Montefiore Cemetery at Springfield Garden, Queens, New York. [8]

Dr. Joseph S. Michtom of 71-35 110th St. Forest Hills, president of Beth-El Hospital, Brooklyn, toy manufacturer and retired dentist, died yesterday afternoon of a heart attack on the golf course of the Engineers Club, Roslyn. He was 61.

Dr. Michtom, who practiced dentistry for 22 years in Brooklyn and Manhattan, before joining the Ideal Novelty and Toy Company, now the Ideal Toy Corporation in Hollis, which was founded by his father, the late Morris Michtom. He was secretary of the corporation and president of the Ideal Plastics Corporation, a subsidiary of the other company, He had also been president of another subsidiary, the Ideal Rubber Company of Brooklyn.

Elected president of Beth-El Hospital last December, Dr. Michtom had led the campaign since then to complete the $2,200,000 expansion program of the hospital. Prior to his becoming president he had served six years as vice president and 12 years as a director.

He was a native of Newark, and was a graduate of Columbia University and New York University's Dental School. His father was an early manufacturer of the teddy bear type of toy, was a director of Beth-El Hospital for many years.

Dr. Michtom, a member of the Manhattan and Brooklyn Dental Societies, was a member of the Conference on Jewish Relations.

Surviving are a son, Dr. Robert Michtom of Merrick; a daughter, Mrs. Natalie Harrows of St. Albans; a sister, Mrs. David M. Rosenstein of Manhattan; a brother, Benjamin F. Michtom of Mamaroneck, N.Y. and four grandchildren. [17]
