1871 CENSUS: John was living at Berwickshire in Scotland with his wife Margaret and their daughter Julia Lilly Mickle. He was aged 56, Margaret 41, Julia 5. Also residing with them was his mother Isabella Mickle aged 73, and his niece, Margaret aged 15. They had three servants living with them. His birthplace is listed as Cranshaw in Berwickshire, and their current address was Peelwalls House in the Ayton Parish and District. Scotland. [4]
1881 CENSUS: The family is living at Stonshiel Hall. Julie is 15 and an only child. the family is entertaining a visitor and attended to by three servants. Scotland. [5]
Death
He passed away in 1885 in Edinburgh Scotland. Probate was granted in 1891. John had been a successful businessman in partnership with others, leaving an estate of approximately 1800 L . [6]
