Anne Middlemore, daughter of Richard Middlemore and his wife Margery Throckmorton, married William Willington of Barcheston, co. Warwick, son of John Willington of Todenham, co. Gloucester. [1] It is believed they were married in about 1506 when her husband William entered into a bond of 1000 marks to Dame Margery, his mother in law, to secure lands in Stratford and Banbury that were to be held by feoffees in trust for himself, his wife and their children. [2]
They had seven daughters and no male heir:
Anne died in 1537 of "a sickness in the brest" as Roger Morris of Shipston reported to the inquiries of 1560. [3] On 8 Nov 1545 a marriage licence was issued for William and the widow of Anne's brother Thomas. [4]
Anne is commemorated on an alter tomb in Barcheston church wearing her best frock with slashed sleeves and a ruff and lying beside her husband William, while on the side of the tomb are half length figures of their children. The inscription reads Hear lyeth the bodies of William Willington of Barson, Esq and Anne his wife; which William died the first day of May in the year of our Lord God MCCCCCIV unto whose souls and bodies God grant a joyful resurrection. Amen
