Gary was stationed aboard the USS Vulcan in Norfolk, Virginia, when he married his second wife, Joyce Irene Ritchey, on 14 Jan 1967 in Falls Church, Virginia.[8] They divorced on 6 Nov 1968 in Arlington, Virginia.
He married third, after 1968, to Charlotte M Welsh and they had four children.[3] They divorced before 1998, when she was Charlotte Travis.[9]
He married fourth, about 1998 in Cedar Rapids, Linn, Iowa, to Kimberly A (Felthoff) Ortiz Buckhaulter.[3]
Gary died 2 Mar 2005[1][2] at his home in Marion, Linn, Iowa.[3]
