Biography
Birth
John was born 10 Nov 1862. (Find a Grave) The 1910 Federal census shows that Lizzie Mike's father (John Jr.) was born in Wisconsin.
Name
His Hocąk name was Hay-Shoo-Kee-Kah, Hešugiga, from he, "head, top"; šu, "feather"; gi, "to arrive going back"; and '-ga, a definite article suffix used in personal names. So his name means, "He Returns with a Head Feather," a reference to having counted coup. It may, therefore, be an honorific name.
Occupation
The 1900 Federal census says that he was a farmer.
Marriage and Children
Mike married Kate Goodvillage (b. 1863), and had the following children (1905 census):
Given that the oldest male child, William, has the birth order name Hagaga, the two male children preceding him either died or lived independently at the time of the census (1905).
Death
John died on 2 Aug 1946 (aged 83), and is buried at the Dewey Mike Cemetery, Neillsville, Clark County, Wisconsin, USA. (Find a Grave)
