John was born in March 1828 in Michigan Territory in what is now Wisconsin. (1900 Fed. census)
Name
His clan name was given in the 1905 census as Kah-kee-seh-kah, which is difficult to decipher. However, three of his paternal grandsons have names that begin with Ce, "Buffalo," so it is clear that the Mikes of this line belong to the Buffalo Clan.
