Henry Miles and his wife Winifred Waggeman Miles are recorded as living in Somerset County Maryland in 1679 through land records. He is listed as the Primary Immigrant and she as his wife.


Will

He wrote his on the 18 March 1696 naming children Daughter Alice and sons Henry, Samuel and William. Maddeningly, though his wife is provided for, she is not referred to by name. In the name of God amen. I Henry Miles of ye County of Sommersett of in the Province of Maryland being sick and weak of boddy, but of sound & perfect memory thanks be to God. I do make & ordaine this my last Will & Testament in manner and form following. First I give and bequeath my Soule to God that gave it me & my boddy to the Earth from whence it came to have a decent & Christian like burial at ye discretion of my Executors, and as for my Temporall ____ such as God Almighty hath been pleased to bestow upon me ____

Item: I give and bequeath to my Daughter Alice Miles two Tracts of Land one named Trouble being fifty acres & the other named Troublesome being one hundred acres to her and her heirs of her boddy for ever.

Item: I give and bequeath to my Sone Sam:ll Miles & likewise my Sone Henry Miles two tracts of Land namely one___ oake & ye other named foscott (?) & to be equally divided between them, and Samuell is to have ye northernmost side of Henry the Southernmost side to them and their heirs for ever.

Item: I give and bequeath all my moveable to my wife & Children & to be equally divided amongst them. And in case my Daughter Alice dye without Issue then ye said two tracts of Land fall to my Son William Miles to him and his heirs for ever. And my to live upon my now dwelling Plantacon as long as she keep herself a Widdow. I doe nominate & appoint my Sone Samuell Miles to be my hole Executor of this my last Will & Testament as witness my hand & Seale this 18th day of March 1695

And on the back of ye said Will was thus endorsed.

Memorandum that this 20th day of February 1696/7 ____ of the Widdow or Relict of Henry Miles deceased (the Executor being a Child) probate was made of the within written Will by the oaths of all ye Witnesses within named.
