--- Biography supplied by his wife Beryl
Wallace began his career in entertainment while at school. As a boy he showed great promise at the piano, obtaining higher division certificates for the Royal Academy and Royal College of Music before the age of 11. Rather than going to Cambridge, Wallace ran away from school to join the chorus of a pantomime at the Kings Theatre in Hammersmith. It was here that he got the nickname of Tedo. In one part of the chorus he only had two notes to sing, and when the baritones were asked by the director if they knew their parts, he called out yes - "TEH, DOH". The name stuck.
He later went on tour first playing small parts, then later, principal comedy roles. During the first world war, he served in the forces, and ran concerts and produced shows, writing most of the music for these. Wallace met hist first wife Lena Mendham, through the stage. They married in 1916 . After the war he continued to take principal roles - he and Lena signed on for three years of army occupation in Hong Kong.
Wallace met his second wife Beryl back in England, whilst acting in 'The last waltz' and after proposing to her nightly as part of the show, actually married her in 1926.
When their son Peter was 4, they sent him to boarding school where he became quite ill. So they decided to leave the stage in order to provide a more established home life .Wallace concluded that that radio and 'talking pictures' were likely to make a career on the stage obsolete, so he studied to become an Insurance Broker.
During WW2, Wallace served mainly as a Staff captain attached to the Indian Army, Here again he entertained the troops and plays and concerts in the North West Army and the Ceylon Commands.
In 1948, the family moved to Rhodesia to a warmer climate. Wallace and his family became involved in the local theatre. Wallace composed a song 'The Royal welcome' which was sung by 120 school children under his direction to the British Royal family on their visit to Salisbury. Wallace was then presented to their Majesties. The BBC later included the song in their highlights of the Royal Tour.
Wallace also did film work (the doctor in the Bilharzia film made in the colony), and several broadcasts mainly in conjunction with the schools broadcasts.
Prior to his death, he produced a pantomime, Aladdin (or Ali Baba and the 40 thieves) . For this he wrote part of the dialogue, most of the song lyrics and incidental music, and lead the Orchestral piano.
He died in 1962 at the age of 67, having been ill for the past 5 years. (address - 40 Canada Drive, Braeside, Salisbury)
