Edmund was born in 1840 in Eastleach Turville, Gloucestershire.[1][2] Edmund's parents were John and Elizabeth Yates (Godwin) Miles.[3][4]
Edmund was a farmer,[5] blacksmith,[6] and innkeeper.[7]
In 1841, Edmund was living in Eastleach Turville, with: John Miles, his father; Elizabeth Miles, his mother; Thomas Miles, his brother; and Alfred Jones, his soon-to-be brother-in-law.[8]
In 1851, Edmund was working as an agricultural labourer and living at Greenbury House in Eastleach Turville with: John Miles, his father; Elizabeth Miles, his mother; Sarah Miles, his sister; Emma Miles, his sister; William Miles, his brother; Richard Crook, a lodger; and, John Crook, a lodger.[9]
In 1861, Edmund was working as a blacksmith living Coln St Aldwyns with William and Mary Ann Cook.[10]
Edmund married Emma Margetts on the 14th of November 1861 in Coln St Aldwyn.[11] Edmund was said to be a blacksmith of Barnsley.[12] Edmund's father was said to be John Miles, a labourer.[13] Edmund's marriage was witnessed by Joseph Margetts and Mary Jones.[14]
In 1871, Edmund was a farmer of 64 acres employing 1 man and 1 boy, living at the Catherine Wheel in Bibury with: Emma Miles, his wife; Mary Elizabeth Miles, his daughter; Cornelius Miles, his son; Edwin Miles, his son; John Miles, his son; and, Isaac Evens, a servant.[15]
In 1881, Edmund was a farmer of 66 acres, living at Arlington in Bibury with: Emma Miles, his wife; Cornelius Miles, his son; Edwin Miles, his son; John Miles, his son; Mary Elizabeth Miles, his daughter; and Emma Florence Miles, his daughter.[16]
In 1891, Edmund was working as a blacksmith and living at Blacksmiths Shop in Arlington Village in Bibury, with: Emma Miles, his wife; Mary Elizabeth Miles, his daughter; Cornelius Miles, his son; and, John Miles, his son.[17]
Edmund's wife, Emma, passed away in 1899 in Bibury, Gloucestershire.[18]
On the 27th of October 1900, one year after the passing of his wife, Emma, Edmund married Mary Jane Mustow in Northleach.[19][20] Edmund was said to be a blacksmith of Arlington.[21]
In 1901, Edmund was working as a blacksmith and living at Arlington in Bibury, with his wife, Mary Jane Miles.[22]
In 1911, Edmund was working as an innkeeper and living at Foss Cross Inn in Chedworth with: Mary Jane Miles, his wife; Gladys Grace Wheeler, his niece; and, Jesse Richard Leach, a servant.[23]
Edmund's wife passed away in 1913 in Northleach.[24]
Edmund passed away on the 17th of April 1924 in Arlington, at the age of 81.[25] Edmund was buried on the 22nd of that month in Bibury.[26] He left a will mentioning the following persons:
