When John Milford was born in 1760 in Ireland, his father, Robert, was 30 and his mother, Margaret, was 30. He married Mary Polly Fleming and they had seven children together. He then married Rebecca Phagan and they had three children together. He died in 1837 in Anderson, South Carolina, having lived a long life of 77 years, and was buried in Antreville, South Carolina.

He entered the service , while residing near Ninety Six, under a Capt. Logan and General Pickens. He served as a guard at Ninety Six jail and was on an expedition into Georgia. During 1780, he was under Gen. Greene. In 1781, he was at Cowan's Ford when Lord Cornwallis crossed the river. During 1781 and 1783, he was under Capt. John Calhoun. A.A. 5238, p291."

John Milford Sr., was the fourth and youngest son of Robert Milford and his first wife, Margaret (Mitchell) Milford.

John was born in 1760 in Ireland and he passed away in Anderson County, South Carolina, in 1837, and is buried at First Creek Baptist Church.

He was [one of six] Milford Brothers known to have fought in the Revolutionary War and was a private of the Regiment commanded by Colonel. Pickens. He entered service as a volunteer of Captain Logan's company, under Colonel Pickens.

John Milford Sr., of Abbeville County, South Carolina, married his first wife. Mary Polly Fleming on Saturday, 03 May 1783. She was from Rowan County, North Carolina and the daughter of George and Margaret Fleming of Rowan County, North Carolina. After the death of Mary Polly (Fleming) Milford, John remarried, and was married to Rebecca (Phagan) Milford at time of his death in 1837. There were children of both marriages. John and Mary have more descendant than all of his other brothers combined:

  • George Milford was born on Saturday, 08 November 1788 and passed away on Thursday, 03 August 1871. He was a son of John Milford Sr., and Mary Polly (Fleming) Milford. George married his first cousin, Eleanor Milford, the daughter of Thomas Milford and his first wife, Eleanor (Jamison) Milford. *Eleanor (Milford) Milford was born on Friday, 26 January 1787 and passed away on Wednesday, 07 December 1864. Both are buried at First Creek Baptist Church.
  • Margaret Milford was born on Sunday, 09 October 1785 and she was a daughter of John Milford Sr., and Mary Polly (Fleming) Milford.
  • Sarah Milford was born on Thursday, 17 May 1787 and she was a daughter of John Milford Sr., and Mary Polly (Fleming) Milford. Sarah died of typhoid fever. She never married.
  • Thomas Milford was born on Monday, 15 January 1789 and was a son of John Milford Sr., and Mary Polly (Fleming) Milford. He married Mary Milford (First cousin). Thomas Milford's first wife was Eleanor (Jamison) Milford.
  • Robert Milford was born on Saturday, 16 October 1790 and was a son of John Milford Sr. and Mary Polly (Fleming) Milford.
  • John Milford Jr., was born on Wednesday, 02 May 1792 and was the son of John Milford Sr., and Mary Polly (Fleming) Milford. John Milford Jr., married his first cousin, Rebecca Milford and she was the daughter of Thomas Milford and his first wife, Eleanor (Jamison) Milford. John Milford Jr. passed away in 1878. John Milford Jr., and Rebecca (Milford) Milford are both buried in the First Baptist Church Cemetery, in Westminster, South Carolina.
  • Henry Milford was born on Friday, 08 November 1793 and was a son of John Milford Sr., and Mary Polly (Fleming) Milford.

John Milford Sr., and his second wife Rebecca (Phagan) Milford had three children.

  • Martha Newman Milford was born on Wednesday, 11 December 1799 and was a daughter of John Milford Sr., and Rebecca (Phagan) Milford.
  • Margaret Fleming Milford was born on Wednesday, 03 March 1802 and was a daughter of John Milford Sr., and Rebecca (Phagan) Milford.
  • Phillip Phagan Milford was born on Tuesday, 14 February 1804 and passed away on Monday, 12 January 1880 and was the son of John Milford Sr., and Rebecca (Phagan) Milford.
