At the age of 19 he and the daughter of the neighbouring farmer, Jane (also known as Jessie and Janet who was 16 had a son Henry Guthrie but was brought up by his grandparents at High Plaid and became known as Millar.
Christine Clement found an article on him in a book called The History of Curling printed 1890 and republished in a boxed set c2000.
