Hugh was born about 1843.[1] He was the son of Timothy Millard and Happy Miller. He passed away on July 16, 1863 as a result of disease at the hospital in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

Civil War Service

April 2, 1862 Enlisted as a Private in Capt. Henry D. Giesler's Company of 1 Battalion Tennessee Infantry in Morristown, Hamblen County, Tennessee at age 19.[3]

May 22, 1862 Promoted to 1 Corporal by appointment at Cumberland Gap, Claiborne County, Tennessee.[4]

July 4, 1863 Captured at Vicksburg, Mississippi[5]

July 15, 1863 Paroled in hospital, paroled at Vicksburg, Mississippi, according to the terms of capitulation entered into by the commanding Generals of the United States and Confederate forces July 4, 1863.[5][6]

July 16, 1863 Died in the hospital at Vicksburg, Mississippi from sickness.[7]
