Profile Improvement Voyager
Katie has completed the Profile Improvement Project's Voyage

Katie joined WikiTree in February 2023. However, she has been working on her family history for over 20 years. Her aim is to go back over her previous research and "put the meat on the bones".

In January 2022, Katie expanded her family history research to include DNA. Since then, Katie has convinced her parents and some other close relatives to complete DNA test to confirm family connections.

Katie joined the Profile Improvement Project in April 2023 and completed the Project's Voyage in May 2023. The two profile's Katie worked on for the voyage were Amos Miller (Katie's great, great grandfather) and Amos' father Charles Miller. She is very proud of the work she has done on these profiles and is working to improve other profiles on WikiTree to this standard.

In June 2023, Katie started a One-Place Study on her home town of Forbes, New South Wales. She has started by connecting unconnected profiles with an event location of Forbes. She will update the One-Place Study page with goals and progress as time permits.

Katie participated in the January 2024 Connect-a-thon with the Southern Cross Stars and connected 481 new profiles to WikiTree during the 72 hours marathon. She also participated in the 2023 Source-a-thon with the Southern Cross Stars and sourced 328 profile.

Follow Katie's progress in the 16 for 16 challenge of 2024 on her Katie Miller 16 for 16 Progress free-space page. Katie participated in the 15 for 15 challenge in 2023 and achieved 15 for 15 in June 2023 and 30 for 15 in December 2023 (see free-space page 15 for 15 Progress for details).

Hi Robin,

Apologies for my delayed response. I've been working on some off WikiTree family history.

Yes, I would love to continue as a member of the Profile Improvement Project. I think the Biography Team is still the team for me. I have quite a few profile to continue improving over time.

Dear Katie,

The Profile Improvement Project (PIP) is performing a check-in with project members. Please review the following and respond to let us know that you are content with your current team or if you would like to be more involved.

The Project operates in a team structure. There are currently three participant PIP Teams -- The Maintenance Category Team, the Unknowns Team, and the Biography Team. There is also the Voyage Team which guides new Voyagers. See the Profile Improvement Project Teams for a brief outline of each team.

There are currently three different Biography Teams - The Biography Team, the Abandoned Team, and the Popular Team.

You're currently identified as a member of the Biography Team. The Biography Team works on profiles from their watchlist and other profiles that interest them. Are you happy with the Team you are on? If you are interested in working with a different Team, please let us know.

If you have not already done so, we invite you to join the email GoogleGroup and text chat Discord channel for our project. (You will need your Wiki ID for both). Neither is required; we also use the Profile_Improvement tag in G2G for Project announcements.

We thank you for all you do to help the Profile Improvement Project meet its goals. We would like to hear about the successes you’ve had and would also appreciate any feedback you have to help improve the Project. Please share your thoughts in a reply to this comment or via private message to one of us.

Sincerely,

Debi Hoag and Kay Knight, Co-Leaders, Profile Improvement Project

Hi Katie,

We're contacting you for the annual Australia Project membership checkin. We really appreciate your involvement in the Project in the last year. Thank you so much for all your help to improve Australian profiles on WikiTree.

Please could you reply to this message, or send me a private message to let us know if you'd like to stay on in the Project, and if you'd like to make any changes to the teams that you belong to. The teams are listed on Australia Project Teams.

If you've moved on to other things for the moment, that's absolutely fine. We'd appreciate if you'd let us know so that we can remove you from the membership list.

We're always happy to receive any ideas or suggestions that you have to make our project even better.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hello Katie

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Hi Katie!

You’re a member of Southern Cross Stars for the 2023 WikiTree Source-a-Thon. Thanks for choosing us! Your Bib is 164 if you want to your Bib and create a sticker. We kick off this evening. The times for starting and finishing for various locations in Australia is at Southern Cross Stars Chat.

There is Source-a-Thon ‘how to’ information and some lists of unsourced profiles to work on at Southern Cross Stars, but you can work on any unsourced profiles that you want. You’ll find resources relevant to Australia under Australia Project Resources. We'd love to see you on the team Discord channel. If you haven't yet joined Discord, see Help:Discord.

I’m always happy to receive a direct message if you have any other questions, or need help with anything. Have a great fun weekend :-) Gillian, your Team Captain!

Hi Katie

The 2023 Source-a-Thon is coming up on the weekend commencing 29 September. As usual it’s a 72 hour event. The Southern Cross Stars team will be participating and we’d love to have you on the team again if you’re available. You can register at now at register-now-for-the-2023-source-a-thon. We’re not a super-competitive team, so even if you are only free for a couple of hours or you like to work slowly and go down rabbit holes, it will be fun to have you involved. It all helps to improve the tree. We’ll be on Discord again too, if you like to chat during the event. Gillian, Captain, Southern Cross Stars

Hi Janet,

Thanks very much for your kind welcome.

I found out about WikiTree through the Family History Down Under Conference 2022. I then heard a bit more about WikiTree through Connie Knox's Genealogy TV YouTube channel.

I have watched the how to use WikiTree YouTube videos and I am looking forward to exploring the WikiTree site.

Thanks again,

Katie.

Hi Katie,

Welcome to WikiTree and thank you for signing the Honor Code, it is appreciated.

Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree: How To Use WikiTree. They will save you time, energy, and frustration as you add your family profiles.

Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Finding a known ancestor and collaborating with the profile manager is another great way to start.

Questions? You can always use the G2G link in the Help Menu to find answers.
