Biography

Alfred Miller was born in the Colony of South Australia (1836-1900)

Alfred Charles Miller was born on 17 Sep 1874 at Yorke Valley in South Australia, son of George Miller (1854-1926) and Maria Elizabeth Josephs (1856-abt.1921). ^[1]

Alfred married Maria Elisabeth Josephs (1877-1905), his first cousin (daughter of his maternal uncle Franciske/Francis Josephs (1854-1944) ), on 1 Jan 1898 at his parents home in Bagnell Park, Maitland, South Australia. ^[2] Bagnell Park was one of two private residences in the Southern Yorke Peninsula open for Methodist worship ^[3]

Alfred and Maria had four children when they lived at Maitland in South Australia:

• Stanley: born 1898^[4]
• Albert: born 1900^[5]
• Hartley George: born 1901^[6]
• Nellie Elizabeth: born 1903^[7]

When Maria died in Feb 1905, Alfred was widowed and a single father of four young children. ^[8]

Just less than a year later on 24 Jan 1906, Alfred married Mary Hosking (1878-1960) at home of her parents in Moonta Mines, South Australia. ^[9]

Alfred and Mary had two children:

• Ruby Pearl: born 1907 in Moonta^[10]
• Mary Merlyn: born 1909 in Maitland^[11]

Alfred died age 36 on 23 Jan 1911 at Maitland in South Australia, ^[12] and was buried at the Maitland Cemetery in Maitland, South Australia. ^[13]
