Biography

In 1900 Ira was living in Sedgwick, Kansas with his his parents and 7 siblings working on his father's farm.

In 1910 Ira was living with his wife, stepson, daughter and his brother who had married Ira's wife's sister, in Midvale, Washington, Idaho. At this point he was still farming.


In 1918 Ira was living in North Bend, Coos County, Oregon and was employed as a stevedore. A stevedore is someone who loads and unloads cargo from ships. He was 5'11" of medium build with blue eyes and dark hair.

Ira Andrew Miller married Rosa Bell Palmer in Idaho on December 10, 1908, when he was 26 years old. She was the sister of his brother William's wife, who had gotten married 4 years previously.

In 1920 He was living with his wife, step son and three children at 2056 Monroe in North Bend, Coos, Oregon. At this point he is working as a longshoreman and his stepson is working as a laborer at a sawmill.

In 1930 he is still at the same place, which it states he now owns, valued at $3,500. They are fortunate enough to own a radio. Strangely it says his step son has been married for 9 years, but there is no wife living with them. Ira is still working as a longshoreman and his step son is a trucker with the lumber company. We also know now that his stepson served in the military for WWI. His daughter Olive is a housekeeper, His son, Douglas, is an operator at a Theatre.

In 1940, Ira is still living on Monroe and we learn that the highest grade and his wife completed was 6th. Douglas, however, has completed 4 years of high school. Ira is now a hatch tender longshoreman and his son Douglas a laborer. Ira made $1650 in 1939 and his son, $800.

Ira died in 1963 in San Diego, California.
