Jacob Miller, son of Nicholas Mueller and Rosalie (Unknown), was born about 1737-1739 in that part of present-day Germany or perhaps the Alsace region of France which often changed governance between France and Germanic kingdoms through the years. From an uncredited source:
Jacob MUELLER MILLER, born c1739 (probably in Alsace), husband of Anne-Marie THEGEIN, born c1739 also in Alsace, was living in Maryland with his wife, four daughters, and son Jacob, fils, born c1767, when they decided to migrate to Louisiana with seven other German families and seven Acadian families from Maryland. Mueller was changed to Miller while residing in [colonial] Maryland. On 5 January 1769, they left Port Tobacco, Maryland, aboard the English schooner Britannia, heading for New Orleans. Unfortunately, their ship missed the entrance to the Mississippi River, got lost in the Gulf of Mexico, landed on the Texas coast, and the passengers and crew were held by the Spanish at Goliad, Texas, for several months, suspected of being spies or smugglers.
After they were released by the Spanish, they traveled overland to Natchitoches Post, Louisiana, arriving there 24 October 1769.
Refusing to settle there, they reached New Orleans via river transportation, 9 November 1769.[citation needed]
At the age of thirty years, he and his family, which then included his wife, thirty year old Anne-Marie, six year old daughter Barbe, four year old daughter Catherine, three year old daughter Anne Marie, and two year old son Jacob arrived in New Orleans after an extended ordeal aboard the schooner, Brittania, which also carried some Acadians released from Maryland after the Seven Years War.[1]
They settled first in present-day St. John the Baptist Parish (known as the Second or Upper German Coast) then moved to the Opelousas District.[2]
Jacob died on 20 December 1807 in St. Landry, Louisiana, Orleans Territory, United States. He was buried, at the approximate age of seventy on 20 December 1807 at the cemetery of St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas, Louisiana.[3][4]
Note, this first source refers to their grandchild and not to his wife.
