In James's father will; it notes when he and his brother, William reach 16 years of age; they can learn a trade; one of the few surviving Isle of Wight Co., VA parish records notes a James Miller was born 12/4/1739 "son of William and Margaret Miller" so he would have been 6 years old at the time of his father's death. James' brother, William (b- Abt. 1740) would be about 5 at time of their father's death in 1746.
1762 Isle of Wight County, Virginia: A James Briggs (son of Ann Briggs) is apprenticed to a James Miller in Ann Briggs' will (who died 6/9/1762)
4/1/1776 to 4/16/1776 - James Miller was 38 in April, 1776 (Note dated 5/20/1776) in the "Virginia Militia in the Revolution" - appears to be on an Isle of Wight County, Virginia section since the previous page notes Isle of Wight Co., VA);
"Miller, James, for 2 Houses for Barracks for Min't men to 1st Ap'l last, 16 ___. ___."
1782 Isle of Wight County, Virginia Census lists only 4 male Millers (James, John, William, and Robert). I believe this is the James (at age 43 on this Census record).
I found no other records of this James Miller in Isle of Wight County, VA beyond the three above (no documents related to wife/children, etc.).
