Biography

Scottish flag
Eva (Miller) Dickinson has Scottish Ancestors.

Eva preferred to use her middle name and was known as Iona. She was born in 1915 and was the daughter of Jarvis Miller and Harriet Taber. To all of her niece's and nephews she was affectionately known as Aunt Onie. Aunt Onie was a kind and gentle woman. As my older brother once said at the age of ten "Boy that Aunt Onie sure is a good cooker". Her kitchen countertop was lined with glass jars filled with homemade cookies, her molasses cookies a specialty. There was a coveted potato salad recipe that all the sisters could make and at Aunt Onie's funeral her last remaining younger brother said that the recipe was lost forever with her passing. That isn't the case however, as my mother taught each of her daughters how to make it. The family tradition lives on.

Aunt Onie raised her grandson Anthony (Tony) Moore when Tony came to live with her at age 6.

She passed away in 2005 after a period of declining health at the Borderview Nursing Home in Van Buren Maine. My beloved Aunt is buried in the Dickinson family plot Evergreen Cemetery Caribou Maine beside her husband Kenneth and sons Roger, Ronald and Gerald, daughter Brenda.

When Aunt Onie died yet another trunk was found in her closet, just as her mother's trunk before her. The trunk held a treasure trove of family photographs, lists of names and dates and newspaper clippings. I was again fortunate to be the recipient of much of that trunk's contents and it has been beneficial in documenting family history. Forever grateful that documentation has been copied and shared many times over with several family members.
