Samuel Miller was born in Lancashire, England.

Samuel Charles Miller was born in Poulton-le-Sands in December 1883 to William Miller and Harriet Charlesworth. They were living at 13 Pedder Street at the time. Samuel was baptised in Jan 1884 and Holy Trinity Church.[1]

In 1891 Samuel is recorded living with his Mother who is now a Widow and still in the same street Pedder Street, in Poulton were she runs a Lodging House [3]

By 1901 Samuel aged 17 is still living with his mother who has now remarried to John Steele, a Blacksmith with his mother who appears to still run a Lodging House now at Woodboro Road, Heysham [4] He is recorded as Samuel Charlesworth Miller and a Locomotive Fireman.[5] A steam train fireman was a very physical job requiring the worker to keep the pressure correct for the driver [6]
