Biography

Sophia (Miller) Leppo has German Roots.
Sophia (Miller) Leppo was a Pennsylvanian.

Sophia, daughter of Lewis Hamm Miller and Matilda Rebecca Swartz Rohrbach, was born 18 August 1871 in Codorus Township, York County, Pennsylvania.[1] Her parents had her baptized 1 October 1870 at Saint Paul's (Dubs) Union Church Reformed Congregation in Manheim Township, York County.[1]

Her mother died in 1873,[2] when Sophia was just three years old. Her father remarried in 1877, but kept the family together. In 1880 the household in Manheim Township consisted of her father Lewis (age 34, farmer), her step mother Deliah (23), Sophia (9), her siblings Jacob Lewis (13), Sarah Jane (12) and Eva "Julia" Ann (10), and her half-sister Arabella Elverta Miller (2).

On 14 May 1889 in Hanover, York County, she married Aaron Robert Leppo,[3] son of Ephraim Leppo and Caroline Renneke.[3] They had eight children:

By 1900 Aaron R. (age 37, farmer) and Sophia R. Leppo (30, mother of five, all living) owned a farm in Penn Township, York County, where they resided with their children Charles Calvin (11, farmhand), Minerva Caroline (9), Cora M. (6), Mervin Henry (4) and Goldie Catharine Leppo (2).[34] The farm on Black Rock Road in Penn Township in 1910 sheltered Aaron (age 47, farmer), Sophia (39, mother of eight, six living), Charles (20, student), Minerva (18), Mervin (13), Emanuel Abraham (9), John Aaron (5) and Robert L. Leppo (2).[35]

In 1920 the family rented another farm in Penn Township, where the household consisted of Aaron R. (age 56, farmer), Sophia R. (49), Minerva M. (27), Mervin H. (23, truck driver for contractor), Emanuel A. (19, shoe factory worker) and John A. (14).[36]

Her husband died in 1929,[37] which left only Sophia (age 59), John A. (25, shoe factory cutter) and Robert L. Leppo (22, garage clerk) in the home rented in Penn Township in 1930.[38] Other relatives live nearby.[38]

Sophia died 27 November 1932 in Penn Township and was buried 30 November 1932 at Saint Paul Dub's Union Cemetery in West Manheim Township, York County.[39]
