Biography

James Lafayette Miller, known as J.L. was born on 17 July 1852 in Rushville, Buchanan County, Missouri to Creed T. Miller & Arisba M. Farley. He married Sarah Ann Berry on 21 December 1881 at the home of her parents, Garrett & Nancy Elizabeth Hall Berry, in Clinton County. They were married by Charles W. Watts, an elder of the Methodist Episcopal Church South.

They lived in Clinton County through at least January 1883, before moving to Kidder in Caldwell County for a few years. By February of 1893, they were back in Clinton County. On 29 September, 1899, while the parents were away, the Miller house caught fire and burned. The children all escaped except five year old Annie, who died despite her brother's efforts to save her. She was buried in the Fairview Cemetery in Lilly, Clinton County.

On 17 October 1924, James Lafayette Miller died in Clay County as a result of a car accident. J.L. was buried in the Paradise Cemetery in Clay County. His surviving children are all named in the administration papers of his estate.

Sarah Ann Berry Miller died on 13 June 1933 in Colorado Springs, Colorado while visiting her daughter Essie Miller Douglas. She was buried beside James L. Miller in the Paradise Cemetery, Clinton County. Source: The Descendants of Creed T. Miller, By Ramona Sadlon, 2007 pg. 50-53
