He married Genevieve Walker on June 15, 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri. [5]
In 1950, he lived in Mount Erie, Wayne, Illinois with his wife and three children, Marda E (7, F), Edgar P (3, M) and Carol A (2, F).[6]
He passed away on July 19, 1971 in Olney, Illinois.[7] He was laid to rest at Green Hill Cemetery in Noble, RIchland County, Illinois. [8]
On October 5, 1975, he was listed on his daughters marriage record.[9]

His memorial states: "Edgar Pershing "Pert" Miller was born on October 4, 1918 near Wynoose, IL. and departed this life on July 19, 1971 at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney, IL after a lengthy illness.
He married Genevieve Walker of Noble, IL on June 15, 1942 at St. Louis, MO. To this union was born three children, Marda Shryock, Edgar P. "Smokey" Miller, Jr., and Carol Bowe.
He leaves his wife, 3 children and 5 grandchildren, also his mother, Dicy Miller; a brother, George; and a sister, Jane Bearden.
He was preceded in death by his father, George W. Miller; and two brothers, John and Tite Miller.
He was a member of the VFW and American Legion of Olney.
He served in the U. S. Army from June 12, 1941 to October 20, 1945. He was a gunner on a medium tank for Co. C. 40th Tank Batt, 3rd Armed Div. He was awarded the Purple Heart for being injured September 7, 1944 near Metz, France.
He was baptized at Wynoose and also became a member of the Cong. Christian Church there at that time.
He was laid to rest July 21, 1971 at Greenhill Cemetery, south of Noble, IL."
