Hi Michele,

I see you are using Ancestry and MyHeritage as sources on a few of your profiles. Would you please add inline links or source citations to your sources so other WIKITree genealogist can go to them and see the information.

Links to sources on paid subscription sites such as Ancestry, FindMyPast, and MyHeritage can be frustrating for WikiTree members and visitors without access to these sites. We recommend searching for a freely available copy of the source document on sites such as FamilySearch, USGenWeb, Archive.org, and HathiTrust. If the source record is only available to paid subscribers, when providing the URL please also extract as much information as possible, such as relevant names, dates, and the source of the original data. Providing the source as an inline reference within the biography also helps to clarify which biographical facts are supported by the source citation.

Please contact me if you have questions or need help.

Thank you, David ~ WikiTree Mentor

Hi Michele,

How are you? I'm David a WikiTree Mentor. Thanks for adding profiles to WikiTree. There are reasons behind the eighth point in our Honor Code: "We cite sources. Without sources we can't objectively resolve conflicting information." A source provides a way to find out more about the person. Showing sources reduces confusion and duplicates.

Here is what our Sources help page says. It has lots of ideas: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Sources

The Sources Style Guide shows how to enter sources in the biography.

Family Search is a free website for finding sources: https://familysearch.org/search/

And I'm here to help too, just ask!

Hello Michele

You've been a member of WikiTree for about a week now so I thought I would check in to see how it's going. Have the How-Tos been helpful or left you with questions?

I want to help! Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page or send me a private message. Sometimes links don't work in emails. If that's happened to you, check the public comments on your profile. The links will work from there.

Cindy ~ WikiMessenger

PS Have you noticed on ancestor profiles on bottom right is "Research" where you can get sources and more information? Give it a try!

Hi Michele,

How are you? I'm David a WikiTree Mentor. I noticed your creating duplicate profiles. Our primary vision is to build a collaborative tree with just one profile per person, so please make sure to look for duplicates on WikiTree before adding a profile. Having dates and locations attached to every person assists in our mission as well - if you have pre-1700's ancestors to add please read our Pre-1700 profiles info.

It is easier to check for duplicates than to merge them after a duplicate is created. Please review our Matching and Merging FAQ to understand your responsibilities in doing merges. During a merge, the text from the merged-away profile is appended to the end of the text of the merged-into profile. After a merge, you will need to clean up the text by removing duplicate information and consolidating what is left leaving the profile with a single Biography section and a single Sources section.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Michele Please remember that per our Honor Code we cite sources. Please do not add more profiles without proper sourcing.

Hi Michele

It looks like United States History would be a good fit with the contributions you entered. Adding the tag United_States_History   will help you get updates about activity for that project. Please ensure location data matches date of profile

Is there a particular time period, location, or topic you're interested in? Or Check the list of active projects to see if one better fits your needs.active projects

Thank you for your contributions to the community's shared tree.

Thanks for volunteering! You are now a full member of the WikiTree community, and can start adding your family.

Have a look at our New Member How-To page for some tips and tricks on getting started. You might also want to head over to your Following page and add tags for each of the names and places you are researching. This will give you better search results, and others searching the same things can find you, too.  :) You can have up to 20 tags.

If the links don't work in your e-mail, you can find them in the public comments on your profile page.

Need help? Just ask!

Above all, have FUN!  :)
