Biography

Ida was born in 1872, daughter of John Milligan and Mary Baker, married Ezra Shorb and lived in Liberal, Kansas. She passed away in 1959.

Except as otherwise footnoted, the following is adapted from Seward County Kansas.[1]

Ida was born 11 Feb 1872 in Lineville, Iowa the daughter of John and Mary (Baker) Milligan. Before 1880, the family migrated to Rooks County, Kansas where her parents farmed.[2][3] At some point after 1885, Ida's parents separated and little is presently known of her life between that time and her marriage. It is known that she was a Harvey Girl for some period of time. She married Ezra Shorb, a rancher and business owner from Liberal, Kansas on 20 Jun 1899 at Topeka, Kansas.[4] In 1902, they purchased the home Ed Guymon had built on East Second Street in Liberal, Kansas.[5] Two daughters were born to the couple here[6] then the house was moved to 521 North Pershing where their son Herman was born and was later occupied by son Herman and his wife Huberta.[7][8]

Ezra's various business endeavors eventually became the Ezra Shorb Hardware in 1911. When Ida moved to Davenport, Iowa is uncertain but she passed away there 23 Oct 1959.[9] She was returned to Liberal, Kansas for services and interment at the Liberal Cemetery.[10]

Milligan-2017 and Milligan-3172 appear to represent the same person because: For some reason Milligan-2017 did not appear as a potential same person when creating Milligan-3172. Please merge into the lower number profile but retain the biography and citations found on Milligan-3172. There is conflicting information as to when she moved to Davenport, Iowa (an obit says in 1938 but other information may contradict that--researching further). ~ T Stanton (Seward County <Kansas> Historical Society)
