Robert Mills was born in 1841 in Shepshed, Leicestershire, England, United Kingdom. He was the natural born son of John Wardle and Ann Mills

In 1841, Robert Mills (5 months) was living with his mother, Ann Mills (20) in the house of his grandfather, Robert Mills (55, FWK), and grandmother, Ann (50) in Navigation Road, Shepshed, Leicestershire, England, UK. They were living next door to John Wardle (20) who was living in the house of his parents, John Wardle (60, FWK) and Catherine (55), along with his two brothers, William (15) and Joseph (10). ^[1]

By 1851, The young Robert Mills had become Robert Wardle (age 10 yrs) and his mother, Ann Wardle (30) was married to her former next door neighbour, John Wardle (32). They had three more children, Thomas Wardle (7), Catherine Wardle (5) and Emma Wardle (0). Robert Mills Snr (63) was living with them. ^[2]
