Biography

William Mills was christened on 31 Jul 1761 at St Nicholas' Church in Compton, Surrey. He was the son of Thomas Mills and Elizabeth (Baxter) Mills.

William married Mary Parson in 1800, by license. The marriage bond was signed on 8 Nov 1800. Both parties were 21 or older, and neither had been married before; both were of the parish of Compton. A Thomas Mills - plausibly William's father - witnessed the marriage bond.

Their son William was christened on 31 Jan 1802 at St Nicholas' Church in Compton.^[1]

Their daughter Harriet was christened on 30 Sep 1804 at St Nicholas' Church in Compton.^[2]

Their daughter Elizabeth was christened on 25 May 1806 at St Nicholas' Church in Compton.^[3]

Their daughter Ann was christened on 5 Jul 1807 at St Nicholas' Church in Compton.^[4]

William died in 1809, aged 48. He was buried on 25 Jan 1809 in St Nicholas' Churchyard in Compton. His will was proved on 10 Feb 1809. His executor and beneficiary was his brother John Mills. His estate was worth under £100.

William and Mary's son Thomas was christened on 16 Apr 1809 at St Nicholas' Church in Compton.^[5]

Research Notes

The burial record transcription gives William's burial month as June. This isn't possible since his will was proved in February; Jun and Jan can sometimes appear quite similar in old handwriting, so I have assumed Jan to be the correct reading.
