Obituary

MR. JOHN HILLS." The Week (Brisbane, Qld. : 1876 - 1934) 29 April 1904: Page 27
MR. JOHN HILLS.
Death on Sunday removed from our midst a very old and much respected resident of Brisbane in Mr. John Mills, boot manufacturer, of Leichhardt street, Spring Hill.
The late Mr. Hills, who was 74 years of age at the time of his death, had been in failing health for some time, and complications afterwards set in which precluded all hope of his recovery.
The deceased had been in business in the Leichhardt street shop for fully 39 years, and was at his usual post of duty up to a short time before his death.
He took a great interest in local politics, and it is a well known fact that many public men owed a good deal of their success to his influence and efforts.
His brother, the late Mr. Charles Mills, was for over 20 years overseer and publisher of the "Telegraph" newspaper, and a son of the latter is still engaged upon the paper.
The late Mr. Robert Hills, who formerly worked on the "Telegraph" mechanical staff, was also a brother of the deceased.
The other surviving relatives of the deceased, who was a bachelor, are two sisters, and Messrs. Walter and Samuel Hills (engaged in the General Post Office), and John Mills (overseer at Messrs. Watson, Ferguson, and Co.), nephews.
The funeral of the deceased took place on Monday afternoon at Toowong cemetery, the deceased being buried according to the Church of England rites. There was a large attendance of relatives and friends, and many beautiful wreaths were sent. The funeral service at the grave was read by the Rev. Thomas Jones, a very old friend of the family. [5]

Burial
John Mills was buried on 25 April 1904 at Toowong Cemetery, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. [6]
