Biography
Jack was born in 1885. He passed away in 1934. On 01 June 1934 he was working as a carpenter and electrician for a railroad and took his lunch break in a box car. He was found some time later suffering from heat stroke. He was taken to the hospital and died the next day.[2]
He was buried on 05 June 1934 in an undetermined location. It's possibly that he was buried at Jefferson Davis Hospital and the grave was later unmarked, removed, and the remains placed in a different location (though this is unlikely given the unclear markings on the death certificate). The birth certificates of his children list several names, all reasonable variations and initials of John Jackson Mills. He was known to family and friends as "Jack". His death certificate lists Waco, Texas as the place of birth, and all related documentation (such as census forms) support this possibility by listing Texas as the place of birth.
Family records, likely modern reconstructions, show him as the child of James Harvey Mills (abt.1844-abt.1914) and Mary (Samuel) Mills (1849-1929) of Canton, Van Zandt County, Texas, who have a son listed as "John J. Mills", also born in early 1885. However convincing records support that this John J. Mills married Lucy C. Guinn and soon moved from Canton to Munday, Knox County, Texas, then to Roswell, New Mexico where he remained until his death.
