Charles (12) is still residing in his parents household in Belmangate. Again, the census suggests that he is a scholar ^[4].

1871

Charles (24), ironstone miner, and his wife, Elizabeth (25), are living in Westgate Poynters Yard, Guisborough, Yorkshire. There are two children listed as living in the household: Martha (2) and Elizabeth Chilvers (8) ^[5].

1881

Charles (35), iron miner, and his wife, Elizabeth (35), are living in Wynns Yard, Guisborough, Yorkshire. There are four children listed as living in the household: Martha (12), George H (10), Mary A (8), and Robert C (3). Mary A Chilvers (1), Charles’ niece, is also living in the household ^[6].

1901

By 1901, the family as immigrated to Canada and is living in Reach Township, Ontario. The census suggests that they immigrated in 1893 and that Charles was born on 23 Nov 1840. Charles, 61, is working as a farmer. Elizabeth, his wife, is 55. Children living in the household include: Mary A (26), Robert C (22) and Herbert L (8) ^[7].

By 1911, Charles (61), farm labourer, is living in Mariposa Township, Sonya Village, with his daughter, Georgina Short. This census suggests that the family immigrated in 1885 and that he was born in Nov 1849. The census also suggests that he was a member of the Methodist church ^[8].

Death

Charles Mills died on July 30, 1912. His death record suggests that he was born April 30, 1836. At the time of his death, he was living on Lot 24, Con. 10, in Cannington, Ontario. The primary cause of death was degeneration of the heart muscles, which he suffered from for 4 years. His death was contributed to by general edema (watery fluid collecting in the tissues of the body) ^[15]
