Biography

Samuel Mills was born in 1792 in River Hebert, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia.[1] His parents were Jesse Mills & Martha "Patty" (Mills) Mills. Jesse was a United Empire Loyalist, arriving in Nova Scotia in 1783 following the American Revolutionary War.

Samuel married Margaret Jones 30 Dec 1813.[2] According to the marriage record, Samuel was from Southampton, Nova Scotia, and Margaret was from the Parish of Moncton (Westmorland County, New Brunswick).

Samuel died in Goose River (today, Linden) Cumberland County, Nova Scotia ca. 1841.[3] The North Cumberland Historical Society does not have a record for the burial place of Samuel, but it is most lokely in Linden Hillside, or Linden Mills Cemetery)[4]

Research Notes

In 2022, the consensus from Geni and Family Search is that Samuel is the father of Daniel Mills. I am actively investigating whether this is incorrect since the census records for Daniel indicate that he is Daniel Mills Jr (1871) and Daniel Mills 2nd (1881).[5] In the future, after further investigation, it is my intention to switch the profile of Daniel Mills Jr. to his father, Daniel Mills (presumably senior). I welcome comments and input from other researchers.Mills-4919 10:08, 30 May 2022 (UTC)

Hello Jonathan, do you have any information please on Samuel and Margret’s son Samuel born circa. 1830?

My g.g.g.grandfather was a Samuel Mills who married an Ellen Patterson in 1864 in Cork, Ireland. He died in Bandon, Co. Cork Ireland in 1922. His father was also named Samuel and his mother’s first name was Margaret. Despite years of investigating, I have never been able to determine where he or his father was born. I came across another family tree today where it reflected my g.g.g.grandfather as being born to Samuel & Margret Peggy (nee Jones) - not sure if this is correct though. Many thanks, Úna

Hello Una;

I'm afraid this is not the same family you are searching for, even though the details sound remarkably similar. The Samuel Mills in this profile was born and died in Nova Scotia, Canada. He does not have any connection to Ireland. Unfortunately, I do not have any experience researching Irish records.
