Biography

Everett Mills was among the first professional baseball players. He played amateur ball in the mid 1860s with future pros Andy Leonard and Charlie Sweasy, who would go on to play for the first professional baseball team, the 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings.

Everett first played professionally for the 1871 Washington Olympics, then 1872 and 1873 for the Lord Baltimores(a.k.a. Baltimore Canaries). From 1874-1876 with Hartford.

EVERETT MILL's Findagrave page gives his time line, and sites baseball-reference.com, wikipedia, and New Jersey Sports Heroes offer more information on his baseball career.

In 1871 one of the first baseball cards produced showed the top 11 team members of the Washington Olympics, noting Everett as firstbaseman. Most of the 11 have links attached to the picture.

His last occupation before he passed away in New Jersey was noted in the 1900 census as Sargent of Arms at the Courthouse.

On December 23, 1868, Everett married Emma Wheeler. Emma, born about 1848 in Massachusetts, the daughter of Orrin T. (1825 VT), and Anne(1827 NH) Wheeler.

In 1870 in New Jersey census, it is shown Everett and Emma just had a baby, Everetta.

There is a birth record for September 3, 1875 in Newark for their second child, Minnie. The record just says female child, but her name is given in the next census, 1880.

The last census reports for Everett were 1900 and 1905 in Newark.

After his death, the 1910 census showed wife Emma living in the home of her daughter Everetta Mills Warner, who had married Alfred O. Warner. Everett and Emma's other daughter Minnie was also in the home.

Can not be certain of Everett's early life, but two censuses of Newark offer good possibility. In 1850 and 1860 the couple Isaac(1801 NJ-1869 NJ) and Joanna(1803 NJ) are shown with a son Everett of the correct age.
