James Milne was the illegitimate son of Elizabeth Bruce. His father was John Mackie Milne. Both parents signed the birth registration.

He was born on 27 April 1870 in Lonmay.[1]

James (32) married Mary Trail (32) on 18 December 1902.[2] His mother's name was given as Elizabeth Bruce (afterwards married to George Crawford). The marriage of James and Mary was registered in triplicate to reflect the names: Bruce, Crawford and Milne.
