There is no birth or baptism record for Mary Jane. She may have been adopted, but more likely is that she is the daughter of her 'aunt', Emma Milner who is age 22 in the 1851 census (https://www.ancestry.co.uk/interactive/8860/YRKHO107_2339_2339-0856/14170500?backurl=https://www.ancestry.co.uk/family-tree/person/tree/37597560/person/19112727839/facts). Mary Jane is there age 3 as the granddaughter of Samuel Milner & his wife Ann Wigfall. Mary Jane's wedding certificate says her father is Henry Milner. Henry was transported to Australia in 1835 for Larceny - he never returned to England, dying in 1860 in Parramatta lunatic asylum.
