Maria Carmela was born on 18 May 1891 in Manhattan. She is the daughter of Mercurio Milone and Lena Ciavarello. ^[1]

She is 21 when she marries Angelo Chiarelli, a native of Castrofilippo, Sicily, the son of Pietro Chiarelli and Melchiorra Castellano, in Manhattan on 15 June 1913.^[2][3] Angelo, an asphalt laborer, dies in June 1942 in Manhattan.^[4]
