Mary was born in 1757. Mary Minear ... She passed away in 1842. [1]

She was the daughter of the famous 'Appalachian Explorer' John Minear. She was the 8th child of 13 born to John & Maria Ursula Minear. She married William Westfall Haddox, a Revolutionary War Veteran, in 1784, they had 13 children. They lived on the Tygart Valley River near Philippi. The Cemetery were they are buried is referred to as the 'Haddox Cemetery' on Mitchell Run, located off Arden Rd at the Walter Haddox Farm. The location of the Cemetery is said to be located between presently the McCauley & Stemple Farms.-2006

Daughter of the famous "Appalachian Explorer" Jonathan George 'John" Minear 1730-1871

Notes from FAG: Mary Katherine (Minear) Haddix was the 8th child out out 13 born to John and Maria Ursula (Engesser) Minear. John Minear was a “Famous Explorer” in the St. George, West Virginia area who originally founded Fort Minear to protect Settlers from Indian attacks. Minear along with his son Jonathan were killed by a raid by Shawnee Indians in 1781 near present day Phillipi. The graves are located about 2.5 miles north-northeast of Philippi, Barbour, WV on the east side of County Road 12, 0.8 miles north of its intersection with County Road 2. There are two headstones placed alongside the road to mark the spot. Mary Katherine Minear married William Westfall Haddix, a Revolutionary War Veteran, in 1784 and they had 13 children together. They lived on the Tygart Valley River near Phillipi. The actual Cemetery is referred to Haddox Cemetery on Mitchell Run near Phillipi, located off Arden Road at the Walter Haddox Farm. The location of the Cemetery is said to be located between presently the McCauley and Stemple Farms.
