Biography
Josiah Minifie was born in 1821. He is the son of Thomas Minifie and Elizabeth Cox.
He emigrated to New Zealand on board the Adelaide, which arrived in 1840.
In 1848, he married Ann Tompkins.

- By the Rev. R. Cole, on Tuesday last, March 14, Mr. Josiah Minifie to Miss Ann Tomkins.[1]
Josiah was the proprietor of various hotels in Wellington including the Criterion and the Nelson.
In the 1870s he is recorded as a painter in Carterton.
He passed away in 1888. [2]
- An old and well-known settler, Mr J. Minifie, who has been an invalid for some years, died at Masterton this morning. He was a member of the I.0.0. F., M.U., for a long period, and was one of tho founders of the Loyal Antipodian Lodge of Wellington.[3]
He is buried in Archer street cemetery. [4]
