I found you as a possible ancestor of Lord/Sir William Johnston 1607-1769 and Ann Chew 1702-1742. All of my cousins believe we are a direct descendant. Most believe our Absalom Hill Johnston was son to William (Waller) Johnston, son of Richard Johnston, son of Sir William. However, I have more recently come across a cousin's verified data which says we come from William Johnston, son of Sir William Johnston.

I would like to ask what your lineage is, where it comes down through. I checked your GED Match kit # and we share 4 segments at largest being 3.9cM. This definitely is an indicator we come from the same line. So I'm curious which child of Sir William's you come from, and maybe you might have some insights for mine. I recently have found my dad's dna matching several Buckners, so it seems likely that we come from William Waller Johnston, son of Richard. But I'd like to both confirm this and also confirm with other Johnstons from the same ancestor that it is all correct. I look forward to hearing back and can be reached at AlbertLFox at icloud.com. Hi Albert! Sorry for the delay! My father is listed as a DNA match, but I am not. It looks like my lineage comes down through the son, Richard Johnston, and comes through my father's mother's side of the family. I have not worked on this part of the family for a while, so can't remember many details. Happy to answer any questions you have! Emmie Mink Frank

You may have been hard at work getting connected to family members who are already here and adding those who were missing. You probably have at least a few profiles that you manage now.

There's a fast and easy way to access those profiles using the Watchlist. So, this week we're going to look at How to Manage Your Watchlist.

Please let one of us know if you have questions! Just click my name above the comment, then ask in the comment section of my page. We want to help!

Thanks, WikiMessenger Cindy

Welcome! We are so glad you are here! Please make sure each of your Smith profiles has a birth year, birth place and at least one Source. If you don’t have exact information, please mark your best guess as Uncertain. Thanks!

Is the surname Smith on your Tags Followed? http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:Following

We have a Smith Name Study to assist you with your general research and genetic genealogy: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Smith_Name_Study

There are links on the Smith Name Study page to our Smith One Name Study, Brick Walls, Pending Merges, Unsourced Profiles, Error Lists, Smith Researchers and WikiTree Genealogists, the northeastern US SmithConnections DNA Project and others. There are plenty of opportunities to add and improve Smith profiles. Thank you!

You've been here for several weeks now! We hope your profiles are starting to come together and that you've enjoyed getting to know us a little better.

You're probably getting a good feel for the collaborative nature of WikiTree by now. We know that collaboration isn't always easy. So, we've put together a few pointers that can make working in this type of environment a little easier: How to be a Successful WikiTreer.

Don’t hesitate to ask questions as that is the only way we gain knowledge!

Thanks, WikiMessenger Cindy

PS Good work so far! Have you noticed on your ancestor profiles on the bottom right is "Research" where you can get sources and more information? Give it a try sometime!

Hi Emmie! I believe you would have to attach sources on the website/program you're using before creating your gedcom from it. However, I see you've already added a number of people manually, and I'm thinking it might be easier for you to just cite them on those pages. Here is a great page that explains how to cite sources on WikiTree:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Jillaine's_Dream_Source_Help_Page

There's also WikiTreeX, our brand new Chrome extension that synchs with a couple of different outside programs. If you have Chrome and a lot of patience, you could try using that to add sources. Here's the page: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/WikiTree_X

Hope this helps some!
