Biography

James Josiah/Joseph Minish was born on Aug 7, 1853 in Statesville, Iredell County, North Carolina, USA. He is the son of Cpt John Warren Minish and Margaret (Salmons) Minish. (Note: His death certificate lists his father's birth place as Quebec Co., North Carolina and his mother's birth place as Iredell, North Carolina. There is no Quebec County but there is an unicorporated town of Quebec in Transylvania County, North Carolina.)^[1]

James's first wife was Caroline Rash (1852-?), who he married on Nov 7, 1872 in Iredell County. There was one child from this union, Warren Preseton Minish (1874-1943), who married Amanda Jane Henderson. It is assumed that Caroline died between 1874 and 1876.^[2]

James's second wife was Kathryn/Catherine Jane Norman (1859-1923), who he married on Feb 13, 1876 in Iredell County. The following children were born to this marriage^[3]:

1. Dora A. Minish (1876-1955), who married John Neighbors (1878-1946)
2. Fanny Bell Minish (1879-1958), who married John Thomas Lippard
3. Mary Lee Minish (1885-1934), who married John Franklin Hedrick
4. James Baxter Minish (1886-?), who married Minnie Hicks (1895-1940)
5. Violet Mae Minish (1889-1961), who married Robert Mack Ball (1887-1959)

James died in Statesville, Iredell County on Aug 23, 1917 and is buried at the Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Harmony, Iredell County.^[4]
