Biography of Emily Caroline MINTON PULLMAN
Born in Auburn, New York on August 14, 1808
Wife of James Lewis Pullman
Mother of George Mortimer Pullman who founded the Pullman Palace Sleeping Car Company.
Mother of three other children:
James Minton Pullman, born in 1835 and passed away in 1906.
Emma Pullman, born in 1846, who married Dr. William Frank Fluhrer, had one son, and passed away in Manhattan, New York, New York in 1915 during World War I at the age of 69.
Frank W. Pullman, born May 11, 1849 and died March 21, 1879 at the age of 30.
Emily Caroline Minton Pullman lost her husband James Lewis Pullman in 1853 when her youngest son was only four years old, and her only daughter was only seven years old.
Emily's son George Mortimer Pullman founded the Pullman Sleeping Car Company in 1867 and became very wealthy over the next 30 years.
Emily lost her youngest son Frank in 1879.
Emily Caroline Minton Pullman passed away May 24, 1892. She was survived by her sons James and George, and her daughter Emma. She did not live long enough to witness the major Pullman Company labor strike in 1894 that seriously effected her son George's business.
Emily Caroline Minton Pullman is buried with her husband in Mount Albion Cemetery in Albion, Orleans County, New York.
