Biography

Mary Ellen was born in 1845. She is the daughter of William Mitchel and Rebecca Kidd. ^{[1] [2]} Mary Ellen first married Richard Hoskins, a slate quarryman from England. They are enumerated on the federal census in Buckingham County, Virginia in 1870 with two children. ^[3] By 1880, Mary Ellen, still in Buckingham County, is widowed. Two years later, Mary Ellen married George Tucker, a slate sawer, also from England. ^[4] The marriage took place in Northampton County, Pennsylvania where Mary Ellen would live the rest of her life. ^[5] Mary Ellen died in 1912 in Pennsylvania. ^[6]
