Christina Bowman Mitchell was born on 10 August 1899 in Pittenweem, Fife, Scotland. Her parents were Angus Mitchell and Andrewina Hughes Thomas.^[1] She had a twin sister named Mary Christie.

1911 Scotland Census: Christina Mitchell, age 11, is enumerated in the household of her grandmother, Agnes Hughes or Thomas, at Shee Park in Pittenweem, Fife.^[3] Also in the household are her mother, Andrewina Thomas, and two sisters: Mary, age 11; Agnes, age 9.
